While most bus-stops throughout the country are little more than basic structures with a rod and benches, the very first air-conditioned bus-stop in Malaysia has just been launched.
To mark its place in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR), a certificate was presented recently by MBR managing director Datuk Danny Ooi to Dato’ Neoh Soo Keat, the managing director of property developer Trinity Croup which built the structure.
This modern structure is sited in front of the Zest @ Kinrara 9 residential buildings, along the Puchong direction of the Bukit Jalil Highway.
Designed to accommodate 40 people, it is open daily for public use from 6am until 11pm. In order to save energy, the structure’s air-conditioner will, however, operate between 9am and 7pm.
This bus-stop is the first step in our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, as there are no proper bus-stops along the highway for 12km or so.
“Also, we’ve built it in anticipation of the proposed MRT station near our Zest residences.
“We are looking to build more of such stands around the area as community projects, but this will also depend on local conditions,” said Neoh.
It is learnt that Trinity Croup was also speaking to the relevant authorities about adding bus route, to service the Bukit Jalil Expressway. Besides the bus-stop, Neoh said Trinity Group had also built an access ramp to link the Zest residential area with the Bukit Jalil Highway, thereby providing access for the developments residents, as well as being nearer U-turn for motorists from Puchong.
The expenses of designing and building the bus-stop, which cost RM83,000, was footed by Trinity Group. Neoh said that the company would also be taking on the maintenance costs for the bus-stop such as cleaning and checking the electrical components of the air-conditioner.
For security purposes, Neoh said a closed-circuit television camera had been installed to monitor activities within the structure. In addition, he said security personnel would be patrolling the bus-stop on top of their usual rounds.
“I am asking the residents and bus commuters to try and refrain from vandalising the bus stand. We will send our security personnel to patrol the Area.
“We can try our best but users should also try to do their part in maintaining it,” said Neoh.
